About
The Week Eye is a free puzzle: every Monday at 8:00 a.m. Eastern a new stereogram goes live with a hidden word or shape. Find it, type it, and the server times your solve. Leaderboards rank the fewest guesses and fastest times, and streaks count the weeks you solve in a row.
The name is a pun: a new image each week, and a nod to the weak eye that has trouble seeing them.
How the puzzles are made
Every image is generated by code, with no AI. A depth map of the answer is turned into a repeating pattern using the linked-pixel method published by Thimbleby, Inglis and Witten in 1994. Each image is checked automatically before it is queued: the hidden picture must be present, and the texture must not give the answer away without 3D viewing. Players each get one of 20 variants of the week's image, and holidays and daily observances choose the theme.
